Original Title: Woman: Identity and Relationships Author: Charlotte McPherson Charlotte, why did you write this book? Many women who I met seem to be dealing with personal issues related to unhealthy and hurtful relationships. The book is written in a devotional format and allows opportunity for the reader to search her own heart and apply and exercise Biblical truths. When did you begin your writing career? I guess I really started writing when I had the opportunity to travel extensively in the Middle East, Central Asia and China during the 80s and 90s. Very early on in my journeys I began to keep a journal about my travels and observations and experiences. My mother always said to me that I should write a book about my adventures. So many funny things happen when you travel in foreign countries. Often I am invited to give talks in schools about writing as a columnist or published author or what it is like to own and run a bookstore. I love doing this! I didn't write at an early age but I love seeing children get excited about the idea of writing novels or non-fiction. I believe that books can change lives!
Written in a day-to-day format a different topic is addressed in each daily reading and a Bible verse and points to consider is given at the end of each reading. The book – through self- reflection - aims to help the reader move from past hurts into a fuller life and relationship with God. I share words of encouragement to guide the reader in spiritual inspiration and personal growth. The book particularly deals with finding one’s identity, building stronger and healthier relationship and dealing with inner hurt and abuse.
Would you recommend this book for group use as well as individual? Yes, it is available in English and Turkish. If you are learning Turkish and would like to improve and build your Turkish vocabulary with some useful words, this book will help you. Also if you would like to read the book and work through it with a mixed group some can read the Turkish and some can read the English and follow the points and discuss it with each other. Have other women who have long-term experience in Turkey endorsed the book? Yes, I was delighted that Beryl Şimşek wrote the preface:
“A heavy subject and difficult to read at one sitting has been very cleverly and carefully divided into 30 daily bitesize digestible readings. “Statements are made…Questions asked…Problems shared…Challenges made… “Some women may think they have pretty normal relationships. Some may be surprised to discover that there are many others who have been, and are, suffering in the same way they are, which leads to difficulties in relationships. There will be others who have never before thought about the cause of their problems in relating to others. And, for many women, the fact that God cares and want to help, may be a completely new thought.“Why is this a book for every woman? Not only may we discover help for ourselves but also we will be far better equipped to understand our friends. “The encouraging thing to me as I read this book is the message of HOPE for all of us that runs through it, and the loving care of the writer.”
