Turkish Title: İnancın Ötesinde Original Title:Beyond Belief: Science Faith and Ethical Challenges Author: Dr Dennis Alexander and Robert White
Beyond Belief introduces the complex relationship between science and the Christian faith. It is accessible both to Christians and the interested general reader. The authors start by introducing science and the various types of questions that science is good at tackling, as well as the questions that science excludes. The various differences as well as similarities between scientific and religious ways of knowing are then addressed. İnancın Ötesinde leads on to a discussion of whether science itself has been discredited. The authors then look at science from a more Christian perspective. They examine the robust theism promoted by Biblical theology and Christianity’s emphasis on the goodness of matter. The final section of the book focuses on the hot issues that are likely to dominate the science-faith debate for at least the first decade of the 21st century: creation and evolution; the new genetics; novel reproductive technologies and the environment. 'This little book is an excellent snapshot of the science/faith debate.' 'Lucidly and intelligently revisits the issue... Alexander pleads eloquently for an education in both the sciences and the humanities and, crucially, does not upgrade theology by downgrading the natural sciences. No less advisable is the tendancy to upgrade science by downgrading theology.' Posted: January 2008 |
